Scottish Premier League Stadiums

The SPL or Scottish Premier League as it is also known is the top tier of the Scottish professional football league pyramid, and consists of 12 teams.

The largest stadium currently in the Scottish Premier League is Parkhead - Celtic Park the home of the current SPL champions Celtic. The runners-up in the 2011/12 SPL season were Rangers FC who play their home fixtures at the 51,082 capacity Ibrox Stadium, although they have since been demoted to the Scottish Third Divison due to financial difficulties.

The 2012/13 Scottish Premier League season runs from August to May and will be contested between all 12 member clubs of the Scottish Premier League. Each team will play each other three times, before the league is split after 33 games with the both the top 6 teams and bottom 6 teams playing each other a further one time, therefore completing a total of 38 games. The leagues current sponsor is Clydesdale Bank and the the official title of the league is the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. All stadiums in the SPL must be all-seated. The bottom team in the SPL is relegated to the Scottish First Division.

SPL Formation

The Scottish Premier League was first formed in 1997 after the old Premier Division clubs broke away from the Scottish Football League to retain more of the revenue generated by the game.
