UEFA Stadium Ratings - Elite Stadiums

UEFA, european footballs governing body, categorises stadiums as being rated as category one, two, three, or elite stadiums. These categories replaced the previous method of ranking stadiums as four or five star in 2006. A stadium must be recognised as an elite stadium to host the final of the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa League, UEFA's two elite club competitions.
UEFA Elite Stadiums such as
Old Trafford Manchester or
Camp Nou Barcelona must be all-seated and have a minimum capacity of 30,000 with at least 22,500 seats under cover, the playing surface must be 105 metres x 68 metres in width and entirely fence-free. Other requirements are in regard to the number of TV Studios, size of dressing room and CCTV inside and outside of the stadium.
The 2011 Champions League Final will be played at
Wembley Stadium with the 2012 Final being hosted by the
Allianz Arena in Munich.
The Uefa Super Cup Final is always held in the
Stade Louis II in Monaco at the beginning of each season.

All-Seater Stadiums
Most Football Stadiums in England, Spain and The Netherlands/Holland are all-seater stadiums with English FA Premier League and FIFA World Cup qualifying matches requiring that all spectators be seated during games. This rule has mainly been brought in since the Taylor Report, which gave recommendations to improve stadium safety after poor stadium design where some or all sectators stand to view the game contributed to distaters such as Hillsborough and Heysel.
The first all-seater stadiums were in Scotland where wooden benches were bolted to exposed terraces at both Clydebank's Kilbowie Park and Aberdeen's
Pittodrie Stadium which was later declared the Scotland's first all-seater, all-covered stadium.
